# Run an Effect

> Run a skill manually with yourself as the caster.

Runs a [skill](https://entities.lodemc.net/named-effects.md) with **you as the caster**. It's the testing counterpart of a mob's `skill` line: write a skill, fire it on yourself, and see it straight away without setting up a mob.

## Usage

```text theme={null}
/le effect start <effect>
```

**Permission:** `lodeentities.effect` **Player-only:** yes

## Arguments

| Argument | Required | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| `effect` | ✅ | A skill id. Autocompletes to every loaded skill, including ones written inside a mob. |

## How the skill resolves

The skill runs as if you were the mob:

* `@self` (the default targeter) is **you**.
* Radius targeters (`@playersInRadius{r=N}`, …) resolve around **your location**.
* `@trigger` resolves to **nothing**, since nothing triggered it. `@target` is whatever you are looking at.
* `<caster.name>` is your name, and caster-scope [variables](https://entities.lodemc.net/variables.md) live on you.

## Examples

```text theme={null}
/le effect start greeting
/le effect start shockwave
```

## Notes

* **The skill really runs on you.** `damage @self`, `suicide`, or a `forever` repeat all apply to your player. Test destructive skills with care.
